Fifty outstanding books and book series were honored at the 8th National Book Awards ceremony, held in Hanoi on March 8.
Launched in 2018 under the direction of the Prime Minister, the awards have gradually established themselves as Vietnam’s leading national prize in the publishing sector.
Over seven editions, the program has helped recognize valuable publications, guide readers toward quality works, promote reading culture, and support the development of the country’s publishing industry.

Speaking at the ceremony, Trinh Van Quyet, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and Head of the Central Commission for Information, Education, and Mass Mobilization, praised the contributions of those working in the publishing sector nationwide.
He emphasized that the industry must continue improving the intellectual, academic, and cultural value of publications while accelerating innovation and digital transformation, promoting reading culture across society, and expanding international cooperation in publishing and translation.

This year’s awards attracted participation from 46 of Vietnam’s 52 publishing houses, with 397 titles and book series (512 volumes) submitted, an increase compared with the previous season.
The judging councils included more than 70 professors, scholars, and experts, who conducted multiple rounds of independent evaluation and confidential voting to ensure fairness and professional standards.

Among the winners were two A prizes, 17 B prizes, 23 C prizes, five consolation prizes, and five Readers’ Favorite Book awards. The top A prizes went to Illustrated History of Vietnam and the Vietnamese edition of The Story of Civilization by historians Will and Ariel Durant.

Organizers also held book exhibitions introducing award-winning titles and notable publications, creating opportunities for authors, publishers, and readers to connect while further promoting the value of books in society.
