The Military Literature Magazine, in collaboration with the Oriental Research Development Institute, launched a writing retreat on the armed forces and revolutionary war themes on August 17 at Sao Mai Beach Resort, Binh Kien Ward, the Central Highlands of Dak Lak.
Running from August 17-27, the retreat brings together 14 writers, poets, and literary critics from across the country.

The retreat aims to help writers portray soldiers in war and peace, while capturing the character of the local land and people of Xu Nau (former Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces), gentle, resilient in resistance, and dynamic in renewal.
At the opening ceremony, Colonel and writer Nguyen Binh Phuong, Editor-in-Chief of the Military Literature Magazine, highlighted the magazine’s role in promoting major national events and fostering creativity through such retreats, as well as its close collaboration with writers, poets, critics, and the Oriental Research Development Institute.
The retreat seeks to strengthen ties with the magazine, give writers time to create or finish works, and foster exchange among peers nationwide.
For many participants, the retreat is both inspiring and nostalgic. Poet Vo Sa Ha praised Tran Mai Ninh’s vivid depictions of resilient Xu Nau, while writer Nhu Binh reflected on returning 30 years after her first retreat, reconnecting with her literary roots.
During the opening ceremony, attendees also shared insights on their creative processes, the challenges they face, and their emotional connections to Xu Nau, setting the stage for a productive and inspiring period of literary creation.
This retreat exemplifies the magazine’s commitment to nurturing Vietnam’s literary landscape and celebrating the enduring spirit of its people and soldiers.
