A Journey of Compassion and Healing

Tuesday, 19/05/2026 15:41

To mark the 65th anniversary of the Agent Orange disaster in Vietnam (August 10, 1961 – August 10, 2026), the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin launched a series of activities under the theme: “65 Years – From Disaster to a Journey of Healing Orange Pain Together.”

At a press meeting held in Hanoi on May 15, 2026, the Association announced key activities planned throughout the year to raise public awareness of the severe consequences of chemical warfare in Vietnam. The program also launched a nationwide campaign to mobilize resources for supporting and caring for Agent Orange victims. During the event, organizations and donors from Vietnam and abroad contributed nearly VND 1.05 billion for humanitarian activities. In particular, the UK-based Medical and Scientific Aid Organization for Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia pledged USD 81,000 to help provide wheelchairs and sustainable livelihood support for victims’ families.

According to the plan, commemorative activities will be organized nationwide. One major highlight is the 5th National Congress of Exemplary Individuals and Organizations “For Agent Orange Victims” for the 2026–2031 period, scheduled for late May 2026 in Hanoi. The event aims to honor outstanding contributors to the care and support of victims, while recognizing victims who have overcome hardship and risen in life with determination.

The Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin receives donations on behalf of the Association from companies.

In addition, the 6th Congress of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, expected in the third quarter of 2026, will review achievements from the previous term and set new directions for the coming years. Another meaningful event is the exhibition “Orange – Conscience and Justice,” to be held in Da Nang in July 2026. Featuring more than 400 photos, documents, and artifacts, the exhibition will highlight the devastating impact of chemical warfare, the pursuit of justice for victims, and the compassion shown by the community.

Speaking at the meeting, Lieutenant General Nguyễn Hữu Chính, Chairman of the Association, emphasized that although the war ended more than half a century ago, the consequences of Agent Orange still persist. Millions of people continue to suffer from illnesses, poverty, and pain passed down through generations. Therefore, the 65th anniversary activities are not only an occasion for remembrance and gratitude, but also a call for social responsibility and humanitarian action.

Through communication campaigns, fundraising programs, and charity activities such as the online run “Steps of Compassion,” the Association hopes to spread kindness and mobilize more resources to build houses, provide healthcare, and support livelihoods for disadvantaged victims. The series of events reflects the spirit of solidarity and community support with the noble goal of leaving no Agent Orange victim behind.
