A ceremony was held last week in Hanoi to mark the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and the 35th Whole-People’s Defense Festive Day, attended by leaders from the Party, the National Assembly, the State President, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense.

Party General Secretary To Lam delivered a speech, extending best wishes to leaders, veterans, and families of fallen soldiers. He highlighted the VPA’s glorious 80-year history, tracing its roots back to the Vietnam Dissemination and Liberation Armed Team, established on December 22, 1944. Under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh, the VPA played a crucial role in significant victories, including the August Revolution in 1945 and the wars against French and American forces.
To Lam emphasized the VPA’s commitment to the people, particularly in disaster response and search-and-rescue missions. He called for continued upholding of the Party’s leadership and fostering national unity to strengthen military and defense capabilities.

Representatives from war veterans and youth expressed pride in the VPA. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Phiet vowed to uphold these traditions, while youth representative Nguyen Tuan Dung pledged loyalty to the Party and dedication to preserving the VPA’s heroic history.
In recognition of its achievements, the State President awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order to the VPA, presented by Party General Secretary To Lam.
