Towards the 70th anniversary of the Military Literature Magazine’s first issue (January 1957 - January 2027), a book series featuring eight writers honored with the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts has been approved for publication by the General Department of Politics.
The eight-volume collection pays tribute to soldier-writers who established the literary reputation of the legendary “House No. 4” on Ly Nam De Street in Hanoi, making vital contributions to Vietnam’s revolutionary literature.
The series profiles eight prominent figures: Nguyen Thi, Nguyen Minh Chau, Nguyen Khai, Ho Phuong, Xuan Thieu, Huu Mai, Thu Bon, and Huu Thinh.
The book launch is part of a series of celebratory activities leading to the main anniversary ceremony scheduled for January 20, 2027, in Hanoi.
Speaking at a scientific conference on October 1, Senior Colonel Mr. Phung Van Khai, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine, noted that over its 70-year history, the publication has nurtured ten writers after whom streets and schools are named, eight Ho Chi Minh Prize recipients, and 32 State Prize laureates.
Compiling these eight iconic names into one dedicated series honors their collective legacy while bringing their literary heritage closer to modern readers.
The writers represent distinct artistic styles, spanning epic war literature, post-war introspection, non-fiction memoirs, and modern poetry. Yet, all share a profound commitment to developing a national and contemporary literature.
Wearing the military uniform enhanced their sense of responsibility, making them pioneers in writing about revolutionary warfare and leading figures during the Doi Moi (Renovation) era.
